Registration Requirements

In Kansas and Missouri, parents must present proof of identification for children that are entering the public school system as first-time students. A certified copy of the child’s birth certificate is the most common means of identification. Some school districts accept other forms as well. Proof of residency is required for new students and proof of custody when applicable. Students must be at least five years old by August 31 to enroll in kindergarten in Kansas and by July 31 in Missouri.

 

Both states require proper immunizations against infectious diseases. Missouri students have no grace period for compliance on immunizations. Kansas allows a 90-day grace period for immunizations but also requires the completion of a health assessment form for any child up to age nine who is enrolling for the first time.
