Toms River, NJ Overview

Toms River, NJ is the 7th largest municipality in New Jersey.  In 2007 voters officially changed the name from the Township of Dover to the Township of Toms River.  It is placed midway between New York City and Philadelphia.  It has several miles of beach front on its Normandy and Ortley beaches.   Toms River's Silverton section and Toms River itself blend into Barnegat Bay. This area provides marinas and inlets to satisfy fisherman and boaters alike.    Besides Ocean front activities Toms River boasts a municipally owned 18-hole golf course, indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks and numerous playgrounds, sport fields, and parks.  Both modern and Victorian architectural styles are graced by the beauty of large old shade trees.  The township has a total area of 53 square miles and houses the largest public library in Ocean County.  Toms River is proud of its safety record and in 2008 it was ranked by the CQ Press as the 9th safest “city” in the United States.
