Shamong, NJ Overview

Shamong is a township in Burlington County.  It borders Medford Township, Tabernacle Township, Washington Township, Camden County, and Atlantic County.  The township has a total area of 45.1 square miles and a population around 6,500.  New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Shamong Township the 6th best place to live in its 2008 rankings of the "Best Places To Live" in New Jersey.  This panoramic township is located in the central to east-central section of Burlington County.  It offers the wide open spaces so appealing to those who desire the relaxed pace of a country atmosphere within reasonable commuting distance of major urban amenities.  More than half of the acreage that makes up Shamong belongs to the Wharton Tract, with its heavily-wooded rolling hills.  Another large segment of this township remains picturesque farmland, leaving only small portions for commercial and residential development.  Township recreational activities include boating, swimming, and water sports on Indian Mills Lake.
