The family-oriented, progressive city of Locust enjoys an ideal location within a 20-minute drive from four larger metropolitan cities: Albemarle, Charlotte, Concord, and Monroe.  Residents are 2.5 hours east of the Appalachian Mountains and 3.5 hours west of the Atlantic Ocean for virtually unlimited four-season outdoor sports and recreation.  The Locust community is proud of the service-oriented spirit of its residents, churches and businesses.  Seniors enjoy weekday lunches at the Stanly County Nutrition Site, the local school attracts many volunteers and residents of all ages take advantage of the local Stanly County Library branch.  The community sports programs: baseball, softball, basketball and football, and all receive outstanding support from residents and businesses.
