About Folcroft
Folcroft is a borough in Delaware County, in the Philadelphia-Camden metro area. The population was 6,978 at the 2000 census. It is bordered by the southwestern portion of Philadelphia. Other neighboring communities are Collingdale, Darby Township, Glenolden, Norwood and Sharon Hill. The name Folcroft comes from an Old English word meaning "Leafy Fields". Folcroft is primarily a residential community that features developments of single-family homes and multi-family complexes. The township is in close proximity to the John Heinz National Wildlife, the last fresh water tidal basin on the Delaware River. Situated in Tinicum, the refuge features 1,200 acres of plants and wildlife plus nature walkways and trails. Tinicum's Marshes, along with other wetlands in the Delaware estuary, are the nursery for commercial and sport fisheries along the Delaware River, the Bay, and the Ocean.
