About Chadds Ford
Chadds Ford Township is a township spanning two counties: Chester and Delaware. As of the census of 2000, there were 3,170 people. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 8.8 square miles. It was first inhabited by the Lenni Lenape Native Americans and was later named for John Chads, ferryman and tavern owner. Chadds Ford offers an abundance of open space and farmland. Ever since the opening of the Chaddsford Winery in 1982, the township has become a center of viticulture and wine production. The most famous local attraction is the Brandywine River Museum, where the works of the Wyeth family and other American artists are displayed.
