Tabernacle Township is a rural area of 48.5 square miles with a population around 7,200 and has features to attract the nature lover in everyone. The Township is located entirely within the borders of the Pine Barrens Region as well as the Pinelands National Reserve. Tabernacle Township borders Washington Township, Woodland Township, Southampton Township, Medford Township, and Shamong Township. Ninety percent of the Township lies on top of the Cohansey Aquifer and the other 10% obtains its water from the Kirkwood Aquifer. New Jersey Monthly magazine ranked Tabernacle Township the 23rd best place to live in its 2008 rankings of the "Best Places To Live" in New Jersey. Township recreational activities include boating, swimming, and water sports on Indian Mills Lake.
