Rockleigh retains a remarkable rural character with strong ties to an agricultural past. Several 18th and 19th-century Dutch farmsteads have been relatively untouched by urban development, and approximately half of the eastern portion of the borough is included on the National Register of Historic Places. An upscale industrial park covers another large tract of land and the borough is home to a lovely 27-hole golf course. In 2008, it was ranked 13th best place to live in New Jersey Monthly magazine’s “Best Places to Live” in New Jersey. The borough has a total area of 9.2 square miles and a population over 2,000.
