Located on both sides of the Naugatuck River Valley, the town of Naugatuck encompasses several areas, from the highly industrialized Union City to residential enclaves in outlying neighborhoods. Most single-family homes are modest and suburban style, although more upscale modern construction is available in newer developments. Complementing the plentiful recreational facilities and programs in the city itself are vast opportunities for outdoor enjoyment at nearby Naugatuck State Forest. The area is known for its handsome public buildings as well as its attractive commercial architecture.
