000 299E Highway

EPA Superfund Cleanup Site! Located in the historic town of Ingot, where in 1862 the old timers mined for silver, copper, and zinc, this extremely unique property is associated with the historic Afterthought Smelter, where rock was processed to extract precious metals. Mineral rights are reported to extend from 0 to 100 feet down. The property includes approximately 580 feet of year-round Cow Creek, which contains fish. The property also extends to the west side of the highway, where it adjoins approximately 292 acres of BLM land. Just off the highway, a steep dirt trail less than ½ mile long leads to a private getaway area near the top of the property, with views toward Mt. Lassen and a small flat area. Elevation ranges from approximately 1,100 to 1,550 feet, below the snow. This property and others in the area are also receiving government funding for cleanup of historic mine/minerals and toxic chemicals through the EPA Superfund program, reportedly at no cost to the property owner. Due to ongoing EPA cleanup activities associated with the historic mining and smelter areas, buyers may wish to focus recreational use on the highway side of the creek and the upper west portions of the property while cleanup activities continue. This is a truly unique property offering year-round creek frontage, historic mining significance, BLM-adjacent land, and a private recreational area with mountain views.
