Crooked Creek Ranch comprises approximately 652.78 acres in southwest Callahan County. A prominent north-south ridge shapes the western side of the property, with elevations ranging from approximately 1,790 to 1,940 feet above sea level. The resulting 150 feet of elevation change creates broad views from the high ground and a varied landscape of fields, native pasture, brush and lower drainage areas. A wet-weather branch of Crooked Creek crosses the northwestern corner, and four earthen tanks place water features across the ranch. Native mesquite, hackberry, prickly pear, little bluestem, switchgrass and scattered oaks provide woody browse, native warm-season grasses, mast and dense thickets. Field-to-brush transitions and the creek drainage connect feeding areas, travel routes and bedding habitat for white-tailed deer. Turkey, dove and feral hogs also use the ranch. Approximately 117 acres are tillable and non-irrigated, providing ground for continued agricultural use or wildlife-focused plantings such as food plots and sunflowers. The placement of these fields beside native pasture and woody vegetation creates edge habitat between forage-producing ground and secluded thickets. County Road 277 provides access, with electricity available at the county road. Cattle pens are located near the northwestern entrance, and perimeter and cross-fencing divide the acreage for livestock and ranch management. The gate is approximately 9 miles by road from Oplin, 23 miles from Coleman, 24 miles from Baird and 40 miles from Abilene.
