Born in Austria in 1921, Pacheco studied at Wayne State University before earning a Master of Fine Arts in Architecture from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, one of the country's most influential schools of modern design. He founded Louis Pacheco & Associates in Chicago in 1960. His work included contributing to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport, urban design for the City of Detroit, and award- winning residential architecture throughout the Detroit area. In 1970, he designed this custom Grand River residence—a home that continues to reflect the clean lines, natural materials, and strong connection to landscape that defined regional modernism... The original hand-drawn blueprints remain with the home, offering a rare record of the architect's vision more than fifty years later... This is more than a riverfront home. It is a remarkably preserved example of Michigan modernism.
