Fanwood Borough covers less than two square miles, and combines limited business and industry with a pleasing mix of housing that includes some beautifully restored historic homes. The borough population is over 7,000. Fanwood was incorporated as a borough in 1895, from portions of Fanwood Township, which is now known as Scotch Plains. The borough is bordered by Plainfield in the southwest and by Scotch Plains in all other directions.
