Complete in less than four square miles, the City of South Daytona was incorporate in 1951. Maturing over the decades in close proximity to the dynamic, world-famous Daytona Beach and the Daytona International Raceway, the city has experienced considerably growth in small business, professional offices, commercial development, and residential expansion. In the latter part of the 20th century, South Daytona launched a community-based comprehensive plan that focused on quality of life issues for residents and businesses.
