And there are jeep and ATV trails that take you right on to the National Forest from the property and up to near the tops of some of these nearby mountains with names like Granite Mountain, Lion Mountain, Cleve Mountain, and Sheriff Mountain to name just a few where you’ll be able to see mountain goats and bighorn sheep as well as the elk, deer and moose in the area. It’s high country at its finest and you border it all so you can access it right from the property. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination and ambition. You can also hunt your property for deer and elk, or step right out onto the National Forest and take off from there. There’s tens of thousands of acres and you’re right out in the middle of it all. You can hunt both elk and deer with a general tag and there’s extra cow tags you can draw for a second elk as well since the elk are so plentiful in Hunting District 331. There are vast amounts of country to find them in, so you can’t go wrong. The views from the property are stunning. The property sits right under Granite Mountain and you’re up close and personal to the open slopes and rocky crags and cliffs. You’re staring right up at the mountain from the property too. It’s magnificent to be so close where you could spot mountain goats with your bare eyes, or glass for elk, deer, sheep, and moose right there in front of your very own mountain property. Talk about an amazing setting to just sit back and relax and take in all the natural beauty. The property is heavily forested for maximum privacy and there are natural landscape-type boulders scattered throughout the property that give it that great remote mountain feeling and look. You’re at the very end of a private road with a cleared spot for camping or a cabin. So it’s ready to roll into and start enjoying right away. The road in is rough though with the last ¼ mile of the driveway being an old bouldery trail that’s more like a side by side or jeep trail or maybe a pickup for the more adventurous souls. An ATV or side by side is a great way to go, but anything larger than a jeep might not make it without more work on that stretch of the road. It’s all well worth it once you get there and set up camp on your own mountain property in the woods. The area is rich in mining history as well. Some of the remains of the old towns of Hecla, Lion City, and Trapper City can still be found in these mountains where the miners worked and lived in hopes of striking it rich on the silver, copper, and other metals these mountains hold. Some evidence of the past mining can still be seen, but most of the property is forested and looks primarily undisturbed. The property still has the remnants of an old cabin where the miners used to live and some piles of dirt and rocks they brought up from the earth in hopes of striking it rich. This is high elevation snowy country at 8600 feet, so don’t ask about living here year-round. It’s recreational property at its finest during the summer and fall, but not a place to live in the winter, and power is a long way off. The road in is rough in places too. From Melrose, Montana there’s about 8 miles of relatively good gravel road. From there it’s another approximately 6 miles of rough unmaintained county road and about 2 ½ miles of National Forest Road followed by the ¼ mile of private road that’s like a jeep trail. The very small town of Melrose Montana, which is about 15 miles away, has fuel and a place to eat. It’s about 46 miles to Dillon and about 50 miles to Butte for more of the amenities and an airport there in Butte. This land is an extremely rare find being surrounded by the National Forest out at the end of the road right next to Trapper Lake and with Trapper Creek and all these hunting, fishing, and recreating opportunities at your fingertips along with the history and wildlife in the area. It’s that great piece of Montana mountain heaven that could be all yours to own.
