Oxford is a borough in Southern Chester County. The population was 4,315 at the 2000 census. Oxford is the closest town to Lincoln University. According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.9 square miles, all of which is land. The area was first settled by Native Americans. Oxford was first called Hood's Crossing, after the local Hood's Tavern. The borough was then called Oxford Crossing and Oxford Village.
