Located just five miles from Washington, DC, Hyattsville is a community where many residents are employed by the federal government.  This town of residential neighborhoods and small businesses is home to very little industry, which is an appealing factor to many.  In recent years, newcomers and local residents have taken a renewed interest in the area's older homes.  Revitalization and renovation of these structures has given the entire community a facelift.  Public transportation includes efficient bus service and two subway stations.  Residents tend to shop along the retail corridor of Route 1 or at Queens Chapel Shopping Center.  Prince George’s Plaza Community Center provides recreational programs for all ages, and residents enjoy the facilities at Magruder Park.
