Pope Air Force Base

Situated at the northern edge of Fayetteville, Pope Air Force Base is adjacent to Fort Bragg, significantly increasing an already impressive military presence in this region. Pope AFB is 100 miles east of Charlotte and 60 miles southwest of Raleigh.  As home base to the 43rd Airlift Wing and two tenant units, the 23rd Fighter Group and the 18th Air Support Operations Group, Pope AFB has played a leading role in defense tactics and air power throughout the nation's history.  Missions flown from Pope range from providing airlift and air support to American armed forces to humanitarian causes worldwide.  The base covers 3.5 square miles and provides a home for approximately 4,700 military personnel and 1,150 dependents.  Pope AFB is the site of the biennial International Air Mobility Rodeo competition, where more than 100 teams from 17 countries display their aeronautical skills.  Housing options on the base include some newer construction complete with spacious yards, sidewalk-lined streets, and a jogging trail through the neighborhood.
