New Hanover Township is a semi-rural residential community located east of Pottstown in Western Montgomery County. The population was 7,369 at the 2000 census. It has an area of 22 square miles all of which is land, consisting mainly of rolling hills and valleys, half of which half is farmland. Its villages include Fagleysville, Hoffmansville, Layfield, New Hanover Square and Sassamansville. Although mostly rural, new single family homes and some businesses are becoming more commonplace. The township contains two golf courses and a small airport. Pottstown Urban Transit connects the lower end of the township with the Greater Pottstown area including the Coventry Mall in Chester County.
