Single Family Home for sale in Stockton, NJ

for $725,000 with 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths, 1 half bath. This 4,573 square foot home was built in 1786 on a lot size of 3.48 Acre(s).

The hamlet of Rosemont was first settled by William Rittenhouse. The main house was originally constructed in 1754 and consisted of the current living room and den and the second floor rooms above. The kitchen and second floor rooms above were added sometime later. The main house was originally constructed as a tavern and was named Crosskey’s Tavern, although it gradually became know as the Rittenhouse Tavern, and the village itself was known as Rittenhouse. In approximately 1847 the name of the village was changed to Rosemont. Several generations of the Rittenhouse family owned the Tavern until about 1832, after which the property changed hands several times but continued to be operated as a tavern, and for a brief period, a store. Rosemont and the Tavern are mentioned in numerous books and magazine articles which will be provided to the new owners.       The 3.48 acre property consists of three main structures; the main house, the barn and the carriage house. Significant modifications and additions to the main house include a kitchen renovation in 2002, a new slate roof in 2008, a mud room addition in 2006 and a new bluestone patio in 2009.       The kitchen exemplifies a balance of modern design and vintage craftsmanship. The renovations embrace the vibrant pace of life today with a nod to the simple, clean lines of yesterday. The beautiful wood cabinetry is topped by granite counters with tumbled marble backsplash and a large center island breakfast bar is highlighted by pendant light fixtures. Recessed lighting is tucked into the beamed ceiling. Stainless steel appliances are welcome conveniences and complement the grays in the original stone wall. Brick flooring in the prep area segue to pumpkin pine flooring in the breakfast area. The second level combines modern features with vintage craftsmanship and exceeds expectations starting with the original jersey winder staircase that opens to the large second level den with wide-plank pumpkin pine flooring. The master bedroom suite has three deep-set windows and a large closet. There are two additional bedrooms and an office, perfect for a work-at-home day or an afternoon of study. Stone walls in the main bath add to the charm of yesteryear and in keeping with the vintage theme, there is a pedestal sink and claw foot soaking tub. The second full bath features a pedestal sink and a stall shower.       The barn consists of three main parts. The main barn is a three-story structure with an uncertain construction date. The current asphalt shingle roof was installed in 2008. The long barn is a two-story structure that is believed to have been constructed in 1911 based on a date found in the concrete paving adjacent to the barn. The current metal roof and siding was installed in 2008.  A ceramic silo located adjacent to the long barn is of uncertain age. A Carriage House, also of uncertain age, has a two car garage with extra storage, an in-law room with handicap shower on the first floor and a one bedroom rental unit on the second and third floors.      Rosemont Village, or Cross Keys Tavern, or Rittenhouse! One of the jewels of Delaware Township, the village of Rosemont combines country living with suburban conveniences including shopping options ranging from nearby Liberty Village Outlet Center, downtown Flemington and major chains to antique shops, boutiques and art galleries. The area is also known for its fine restaurants and abundant recreational opportunities. The township’s small-town atmosphere in Hunterdon County attracts many residents looking for a relaxed lifestyle that is still convenient for commuters with a close network of roadways such as Routes 31, 22, 202, and I-78. The Bulls Island park in nearby Stockton is set along the Delaware River and offers camping sites and a scenic system of hiking trails. The park has 30 miles of trails, picnic area, overlook / viewing points, historical programs and canoeing.
