Ringwood sits in the Ramapo Mountains, and is loaded with lakes, parks and forest trails.  Geographically, it is about 40 miles northwest of New York City, and a few miles due west of Suffern, New York.  Towns around Ringwood include West Milford to the west, Mahwah to the east and Oakland and Wanaque to the south.  Ringwood is located in the "heart of the highlands," surrounded by the Ramapo and Wyanokie Mountains.  It is the home of Ringwood State Park which contains the State Botanical Garden, the Shepherd Lake Recreation Area, and Skylands and Ringwood Manors.  Balancing commercial, industrial, and residential sectors, Ringwood is a well-balanced community that covers 28 square miles.  Although local shopping meets the daily need for goods and services, the outstanding shops and malls in Wayne are close by.  Transportation efficiencies include nearby Interstate 287, Route 23 and bus service to New York City.
