Tuxedo Park New York Real Estate

Tuxedo Park is a historic village within the town of Tuxedo in Orange County about 40 miles from Midtown.  It was built in 1886 by Pierre Lorillard, the tobacco heir, as a hunting and fishing retreat for his wealthy New York friends.  Considered one of the finest examples of pre-World War I architecture in the United States, Tuxedo Park has always been an enclave for the rich.  It is a private community with a gate guarded 24 hours a day by members of the village's police force who only allow the 900 or so residents and their guests entry.  As you drive through the stately stone gate and along the winding lake drive you appreciate the rural atmosphere afforded by 1900 acres of wooded hills, lakes and ponds, and the architectural excellence of its buildings and landscaping.  Viewing all that you realize why Tuxedo Park is a sanctuary from the hectic pace elsewhere.
